Food Allergy Discovery

For two weeks do not eat any of the following foods and products

that are made from these foods.

Wheat – pasta, bread, cookies, crackers, powdered sauce mixes, cereals etc… Corn – Corn, corn bread mixes, cereals, sodas, candies. High Fructose corn syrup is used in everything from fruit juice drinks to spaghetti sauce. Milk – Milk, cheese, yogurt, sour cream, ice cream etc… Soy- Milk substitutes, soy sauce, condiments, protein powders, tofu etc… Oranges – Oranges, orange juice. Beef – Hamburgers, steak, roasts. Nuts – Peanuts, peanut butter. During the first two weeks eat lots of fresh (raw) fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of filtered spring or distilled water. This will help rid the body of the bulk of the allergens. Add one of the items listed above on the first day after the two week restriction period. Monitor your health and symptoms for three to four days after having consumed the food, for example, a large glass of milk. Some people may get an immediate reaction and some it may take 24-72 hours to get a reaction if they are allergic or sensitive to a particular food. If no reaction occurs then continue down the list. Try to eat an unprocessed form of the food. Choose milk over yogurt; choose cream of corn over corn bread etc… If you get a strong reaction from a particular food then omit that food and let your body rest 5-7 days before trying another food. Do not try another food if you are still feeling the effects from a past test food. Drink plenty of water and eat plenty of fruit and vegetables to cleanse your system before you try again.

Common reactions to look for:

Headache, fatigue, sneezing , itching, increase in mucus, bloating, gas, water retention, weight gain/loss, constipation/diarrhea, frequent urination, eczema, low blood sugar attack, stomach ache, hyperactivity, emotion outburst, general poor feeling. Note: I personally used this technique to find my own food allergies 5 years ago. Dr. Crook, being a resident of Jackson, frequented the heath food store where I worked and he told me to do this and buy his book "The Yeast Connection" and read it . I was covered with a very itchy red rash on my arms and legs. I knew it was something I was eating because if I didn't eat I didn't itch as much. I was at my wits end and ready to go to a dermatologist, then I decided to try this one last thing before I made an appointment. I immediately started to feel better and the rest is history. Strict adherence to an allergy free diet can be difficult at first, but the better you do in the beginning the sooner you can eat some of those foods again on the rotation diet. The rotation diet is simple, if you eat wheat (or another food you are allergic to) today, you cannot eat any more for 4 days. This gives your body time to clear out the allergens before they can build up and cause problems.
